Kurzbiografie
Michaela Catranis ist eine Komponistin, Pianistin und interdisziplinäre Künstlerin. Ihr Werk für Solocello „Jeita“, eine musikalische Hommage an dieses Naturphänomen im Libanon, brachte ihr 2018 den TONALi-Kompositionspreis ein. Es ist repräsentativ für ihren lyrischen und genreübergreifenden Stil, der sich aus ihrer klassischen Ausbildung, experimenteller Musik und Jazz sowie nicht-klassischen Klängen speist, die sie auf ihren Reisen und in ihrer Verbundenheit mit der Natur gesammelt hat. Als interdisziplinäre Künstlerin haben ihre Performances internationale Anerkennung gefunden, Klangwelten, die sich in einem bunten Austausch von Disziplinen entfalten und Musik, Kunst, Technologie und Tanz miteinander verbinden.
Ihre Werke wurden international in Konzertsälen wie der Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, der Berliner Philharmonie, der Wigmore Hall und dem KKL Luzern aufgeführt. Sie hat u.a. für das Ensemble Modern, das Zafraan Ensemble, RIOT, das Mivos Quartett, das KNM und hear.now.berlin geschrieben. Michaela lebt in Berlin, wo sie das interdisziplinäre ensemble menajiri gegründet hat.
Short biography
Michaela Catranis is an award-winning composer, pianist, and interdisciplinary artist. Her work for solo cello “Jeita” earned her the TONALi composition prize in 2018. It is representative of her lyrical and genre-bending style, one that derives inspiration from her classical training, experimental and jazz music, as well as non-classical sonorities that she’s collected from her travels and connection to nature. As an interdisciplinary artist, her performances have received international acclaim, sound worlds that spin out in a colorful exchange of disciplines, criss-crossing music, art, technology and dance.
Her works have been performed internationally in concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Berliner Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall, and the KKL Lucerne. She has also worked with leading ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Zafraan, RIOT, Mivos Quartet, KNM, hear.now.berlin., among others, and works closely with soprano, Johanna Vargas, and Duo Amabile. Michaela is based in Berlin, Germany, where she founded the interdisciplinary ensemble menajiri.
